Both Local Desktop and Local VR follows the same process.
Local Desktop will be documented here.
First Launch
The first time someone launches with the Schoolhouse for Local Desktop on a particular computer, they will have to do an additional step by installing the launch-support-application.
Click Cancel on the popup, and then clicking the link circled below.
This will download an installer.
When it has finished downloading, click it to install.
You may breifly see this dialog:
There is no further action required for the install.
Proceed with normal launching.
Normal Launching
Choose Open when the confirmation dialog appears
In order for the Schoolhouse web page to start a program on you local machine, it needs to run the launch-support-application. It needs your permission to do so.
So, if you see this popup, choose Open.
Once you have started it, you should not have to start it again until you restart your computer.
If you do not have the required content installed, you will see an "Installing or Upgrading" screen:
Choose to Install. A progress bar will show in the install button. When installation completes, the Ready to Launch screen will appear.
When the Ready to Launch screen appears, click Launch
This will run the application on your local computer. You may need to use Alt+Tab to view it.
To record your work in the LMS, make sure to Grade Lesson to exit
When the lesson has been recorded to the LMS, the application will automatically close.
If you want to quit early, use the Stop button in the Schoolhouse page. This will not record the results to the LMS.
Upgrading
Occasionally, a new version of content will become available. After choosing Local Desktop or Local VR, this status is shown.
Select Upgrade to automatically download and install the latest version.
You can press Cancel if you need to stop the download.
However, you will not be able to use the content in Desktop until you have the latest version.
When the installation is complete, you can continue with the launch.
